About Gift Aid
Gift Aid doesn’t cost you or your sponsors a penny,
but it will add almost a third to the amount of money Crusaid
receives.
If your sponsors are UK taxpayers, the Government will
pay Crusaid an additional 28p for every £1 they give
(including all future donations) if they tick the Gift Aid
box when sponsoring you and fill in their name, residential
address and postcode. Their residential address is a requirement
for a valid Gift Aid claim, so please encourage your sponsors
to provide this.
Sponsors must pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital
Gains Tax for each tax year (6th April one year to 5th April
the next) that is at least equal to the amount of tax that
the charity will reclaim on their gifts for that tax year.
Tax Claimed By Crusaid
- Crusaid will reclaim 28p of tax on every £1 given
up to the 5th April 2008
- Crusaid will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 given
on or after 6th April 2008
- The Government will pay Crusaid and additional 3p for
every £1 given between 6th April 2008 and 5th April
2011. This transitional relief does not affect the donors
personal tax position.
If your sponsor pays income tax at the higher rate, they
must include all their Gift Aid donations on their Self
Assessment tax return if they want to receive the additional
tax relief due to them.
